| Beware of hardware providers, like
Compaq, Gateway, Dell and Packard Bell, which put out really cheap computers
and pass off a phony reputation as "good". The truth is, they suck. Badly.
Everyone I know who has a Gateway is always complaining that it's broken.
Compaq is not much better. People buy them, then come to me to repair them.
I see more Dell computers for repairs than I do of my own system. (Odd
that...) Then there's Packard Bell. A company that built they reputation
on a name stolen from two of the biggest companies. Hewlett Packard
and Bell Telephone. I've always admired
that. Take the best name recognition in the tech industry, combine them
and pretend that you've been around for years. All the while selling refurbished
parts in "new"
computers.
So, forgive my ranting, but a while ago, I decided to put together my own systems so that I could have more time programming and less time fixing other people's computers. But unless people spend the few extra dollars to buy my systems, I'll keep fixing the shitty ones. If you might be interested in a system that won't break down in it's 3 year lifespan, or if you're interested in a system that uses REAL parts instead of no-name knock offs, let me know and I'll build you a great system at a very reasonable price. And if something does go wrong, as things sometimes do, just call me and I'll come take a look at it. |

Another thing to be aware of is at the heart of computers. The Processor. The problem is which one do you choose? They all have flaws. Cyrix and AMD chips are both inferior to Intel. Although they both claim to be Intel compatible, I find theem only about 90% compatible. Once you start really pusing the system, the tend to crash. They are fine for the average user. But hey, what's the average user actually doing? Word processing, spreadsheet stuff, maybe a little desktop publishing. Even a Mac can do that. <snicker> AMD is aiming to shut down Intel. Bill Gates has been dumping lots of cash into the company. It seems, however, that the government dosen't want him to do this because then he'll own a definate monoply. (By owning both hardware and software companies.) Intel is making his choice easy by testifying aginst him in the Washington hearings, but only because Gates threatened to make anti-Intel versions of Windows if Intel didn't stop making multimedia chips. Gates was quoted as saying "Multimedia is the domain of software, not hardware." But Intel is looking to alienate themselves from the informed public. The new P3 is not that much different then the P2. But that's not what's pissing people off. It's the new security chip. Everything you do on the computer. Every website, every program, every piece of information (Credit Card numbers, last visited web addresses, passwords, EVERYTHING) is recorded and dumped at Intel every time you log onto the internet. Talk about a total breach of personal privacy. So, in the meantime, I'm only dealing with the Intel Celeron and the P2. Although I'm very pissed at Intel for the P3, I won't sell the AMD and the Cyrix do to the inherent problems. |
We build the best systems because we use the best BRAND-NAME
parts we can.
Then we sell them at the lowest prices.
